Matting needed?

My husband and I just got our home gym package and have set it up however we don’t have matting underneath I want some especially when I use kettle bells but why is it needed or recommended for everything else?

Well, for one, it dampens the sound and the impact of dropping weights.

Although, I have seen concrete broken even with matting on top of it, so it’s probably best to build a lifting platform to avoid doing nasty stuff to your garage floor.

The matting is also a little nicer on your joints if you’re doing jumping movements, and much nicer on a jump rope than concrete.
