Ouch, sore from the Ladder WOD yesterday. “Rest” day today involved sorting, hand splitting, and stacking firewood for 3 hours.

Real world workouts are the bestest! Don’t know about doing them on rest days though LOL  Good nonWOD Trigger wink

Don’t worry, I’m having a “real” rest day here.  All I need is the bag of chips and I’d look like your previous avatar.  LOL  Hope you’re enjoying yours also.  wink

No warmup today.

WOD: 1km of swimming. Done in a 9 meter pool, which means 112 laps. My time was 44 minutes, which is basically on par with my last performance. I really wonder just how much time was added by having to stop and turn around 112 times, and I note that I did not kick off to launch for any of the laps.

SUNDAY 140629

For time:
Swim 1,000 meters

Post time to comments.

The mainpage of CrossFit directs new people here for help getting started CF can be confusing enough for a newbie, we want to make it as easy as possible for them.  We ask you to be courteous and thoughtful of the newbies. If they show up here for the first time and have to wade through 5-10 posts before we have a chance to scale for them, it can make it more difficult.

Answers to frequently asked questions can be found in the Beginners forum.

No access to a pool nor do I have any idea how much activity is 1,000 meters of swimming.

I do have access to a treadmill and elliptical machine.

Any recommendations on a good sub for the swim? Didn’t see anything specific in the FAQ.

Thanks

Ladd

No pool.  Four mile hike at elevation instead.  A little more than one mile was very strenuous uphill.  Nice to spend some time in the great outdoors.

Hi Ladd,

I’m not aware of an official sub for swimming (although there may be one).  What you might try to do is pick something of similar intensity and do it for around the same amount of time you estimate it would take you to swim 1000 meters.  If you have access to a treadmill and an elliptical trainer, I would go with the elliptical trainer for swimming since you would be using your arms a lot in swimming.  You wouldn’t get as much of an arm workout on the treadmill.

1000 Meters is about 44 laps (lengths) in a 25 Yard pool (the most common size for your typical neighborhood, summer league swim meets).  It has been many years since I’ve swam that far, but I would estimate that it would take me somewhere around twenty to twenty five minutes.  So I would put the elliptical trainer on a resistance level that is similar to swimming (or maybe slightly harder) and go for that amount of time.

That is what I would do.  Maybe someone else will chime in soon with another suggestion.  Hope this helps and good luck.
