I have heard….traumatic early check writing experiences cause this sad habit.

These are the people who should only be allowed to use check cards.

Guilty…but I DO use the check card so I don’t get all those nasty glares. I also chat at the front of the line…

We have too many heroes lost and not enough workout days to commemorate them. I think it’s fitting to always think of the men and women in service, whether military or peace officers and public safety, as we do our workouts. A bit of motivation to throw a little of our sweat and maybe a drop of blood on the floor in their honor.

“Your school may have done away with winners and loser’s.  Life hasn’t.  In some schools they will give you as many chances as you want to get the right answer.  Failing grades have been abolished and the class valeictorians scrapped lest anyone’s feelings be hurt.  Effort is as important as results.  This, of course, bears not the slightest resemblance to real life.

I was browsing through the Thomas Edison website and came across this quote that was funny but is very true:

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it comes dressed in overalls and looks like work”

Did anyone know that they just de-classified Pluto as a planet due to its size and eccentric orbit around Neptune.  Its orbit is apparently tilted out of whack with the other known planets….Anyways they are claiming Pluto to be none other than a leftover comet during the formation of the solar system.

Poor Pluto. Can you imagine getting demoted from planet to comet remnant!

He was just a man doing a job.  A job whose primary attribute was self-restraint and self-composure, not for his own sake, but for those whom he lead by example.  A job whose objective could be boiled down to the single understatement, as he did at the Hot Gates on the morning he died, of performing the commonplace under uncommonplace conditions.

Preservation of life is not the ultimate end or greatest good in Quranic warfare. Ending tumult and oppression, achieving the war aims of Islam through jihad is the desired end. Dying in this cause brings direct reward in heaven for the mujahid, sacrifice is sacred. It naturally follows that death is not feared in Quranic warfare; indeed, tranquility invites Gods divine aid and assistance. The Base of the Quranic military strategy is spiritual preparation and guarding ourselves against terror. Readers may surmise that the training camps of al Qaeda (The Base) were designed as much for spiritual preparation as military. One needs only to recall the example of Mohammed Attas last night preparations.

The battleground of Quranic war is the human soulit is religious warfare. The object of war is to dislocate and destroy the [religious] Faith of the enemy. These principals are consistent with objectives of al Qaeda and other radical Islamic organizations. Wars in the theory of Islam are . . . to advance Gods purposes on earth, and invariably they are defensive in character. Peace treaties in theory are temporary, pragmatic protocols. This treatise acknowledges Islams manifest destiny and the approach to achieving it.

So to tie these two apparently disparate threads together…. Maybe the jihadists would like to be sent to Uranus, where they could worship without the enema…enemy.

Jihadists in space? Let’s hope not.

And I don’t know why, but I thought of the old Smith Barney investment banking commercial, except with a CrossFit twist:

“We make muscles the old-fashioned way. We earn them.”

What shocks me is that actor John Houseman uttered the “we EARN it” theme in 18 commercials, from 1979 to 1986, and it’s still stuck in my head. The Princess Bride script is stuck in my head, too, and that movie came out in 1987.

Because "viriliter age" has to mean something in English, too.
