Got me a buddy lee jump rope now, oh man does that thing hurt to get hit by. OUCH! Red whelps on my legs.

Really?  Haven’t had that one happen yet, though I have almost strangled myself with it.  How is it going otherwise-did you adjust it to get it shoulder height?  Have you attempted a double under?

RS - you haven’t beat yourself up on the shins yet? That’s where I primarily get it.
Theo - if you can, wear long pants when you practice DUs.

I adjusted the length, but I should probably cut a little more off it.  With my old rope even though it was getting tangled up I had a high of 41 consective DU’s.  So far the most I got with my ultra-sleek, heart pumping, workout inducing, Hyperformance Aero Speed Silver Jump Rope is about 12 in a row.  Guess I’ll get used to it and get better.

I’ll say one thing - it is A LOT faster than the one I was using.

Kinda wished I would have got the red one (9” handles vs the one I got has 6” handles).  I didn’t think about the longer handles keeping the rope farther away from my arms.  I also went ahead and got a back up cord for $5.00 Like someone said, the bulk of the money goes to buying the handles, but once you got those, the cords are only 5 bucks, so if you jump rope a lot, it’s not that bad.

Not sure it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread, but better than the el cheapo rope I was using.

The other day at the affiliate:

The usual meet and greet howdies take place and there is a new face in the morning class.  This lady just finished her introductory course and is lined up for her first class WOD.  The coach has us do some singles as a part of warmup and then says to do one minute of double unders.  This lady does 50.  Yep, 50.  The rest of us got something like 12.  Combined.  Dang.

The Buddy Lee’s are customizable to your height.

Sorry to dig up an old post but this seemed to be the best fit when I searched the posts.  How do you determine the right length jump rope for your height?

Thanks,

Scott

2. How do I determine the proper length for a single jump rope?
Generally, the proper rope length is determined by your height as follows:

  Length   Suitable For
  7 ft.    up to 4’10”
  8 ft.    4’11”-5’3”
  9 ft.    5’4”-5’10”
  10 ft.    5’11”-6’6”
  11 ft.    over 6’6”

To determine the exact length for an individual, stand on the center of the cord.

The handle tips should reach your armpits. When you jump over the rope, the rope should just brush the floor beneath your feet. If the cord doesn’t touch the floor, the rope is too short. If the cord hits the floor in front of your feet, the rope is too long and should be shortened.

The size chart and the individual method are general…optimum rope length ideally depends on how high you hold your arms as you turn the rope with your wrist, thus check where it hits the floor and make any minor adjustments.

And one buddy lee pointer:  do not use them on cement, concrete, driveways, etc.  You’ll snap the cord pretty quickly and need a $20 something replacement cord.  Longest use comes from sticking to soft gym floors, basketball courts, etc.

Good luck!

Turns out my jump rope (a power max because I do jump outside) is just right for my height.  Dumb luck I guess.  It also confirms that I am no good at jumping rope.

My Biddy Lee snapped in two while jumping on the gymnastics mat at BX.  Go figure.  The lady told me it should not be hitting the ground, when I called to order my replacement rope.
