Try this, the famous “Issue 21” of the CrossFit Journal:

There’s a reason they don’t call it “Fight Gone Good”.

And there’s a huge amount of information posted and linked in the Health and Nutrition forum here, including quite a few “how do I get started” topics.

Take a look through some of the older topics and you may find what you need is already there.

The CrossFit prescription for nutrition is:

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.

In the video series linked below is a simple and realistic explanation of that, broken down step by step.
It’s brilliant.

Everyone should watch all of the videos.

We often get asked how to gain weight. It’s usually the skinny guys who ask that. As someone who used to be in that category, I can assure you that advancing years and a desk job will address that, but it won’t be useful weight that you add.

The best method that I’ve seen to gain weight while staying true to the CF nutritional prescription is the method outlined in these videos.
http://journal.crossfit.com/2012/11/channutritionp1.tpl
Video 1 is a general background on nutrition, Video 2 covers gaining weight, Video 3 losing weight and adjusting for competition workout schedules.
There’s a bit of math in there and it assumes that you know how the Zone works.

Taken with EC’s series on clean eating in the previous post and Issue 21 that basically describes the Zone block system, that should be more than enough for most people.

All of that said, the most important guideline of all is the eminently sensible:
“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.”

The rest is about giving you tools to do that.
