Ok, Im new to this board, but have been with CrossFit for a month now.  Yes, addicted.

Here’s my question.  Every picture, video, etc that I see shows the athlete (men) wearing what looks like to me long board type swimsuits.  Is that the preferred clothes to wear?  Why?  Also, and forgive me for being too intimate, but are they wearing swimsuits commando?

I have been wearing the typical shorts/underwear and t-shirt for my workouts.  I do notice “bunching” with some of the WODS, and for my C2 rowing days I decided to wear cycling shorts.

Anyway, any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

I have been wondering why the swim trunks for a while also.  I can’t say I ever looked at crotches enough to notice commando or not.  I chaffed horribly back in the summer and thought maybe the swimtrunks and cargo shorts cut down on chaffing.  However, I don’t think that is the answer.  I think it is just a personal preference that is probably popular at various affiliates.  I get really hot in cotton shorts and have to keep to my gym shorts in an effort to stay cool.  In the end, I guess I did not answer your question.  Hell, wear what you like.  When you are struggling through Helen or Angie, I don’t think you will give your gym shorts a second thought.

I am not going too far into this one, but I have found that on the bottom of a near PR squat, your boxers ripping can be distracting enough that you find yourself pulling plates off of the bar as it rests on the safety bars.

Clothing stores in the greater Ramona area sell only board shorts and Adidas Sambas.  Board shorts are also part of the cumpulsory school uniform.  No idea why this is the case when they are so far from the beach.

I can’t really imagine wearing boxers under board shorts. That’s just all kinds of messed up.

Also, as shark mentioned torn boxers are teh suck.

Wear whatever works for you, but for goodness sake ditch the spandex cycling shorts.

THOSE Cali guys are . . .

And I wanted something besides my sambas to squat in so I pulled out my old army boots.  That was pretty right on.

Snatching in cowboy boots and Wranglers is preferred over running shoes and short shorts.

It depends on who’s wearing them.

Seriously, I cringe at the O-lifting certs I’ve been to where good people have paid serious money to attend and they show up wearing running shoes. What a waste. But boots? Hiking, motorcycle, military, or cowboy boots? Good to go. Couple that with some loose fitting jeans (they prevent scrape marks on shins and thighs) and you’re set.

I’ll have to dig out my old jungle boots…or I guess I could bring my lifting shoes, but what fun would that be? wink

Now I just gotta go board short shopping.  I got some fight shorts for FGB IV and they worked well.  I was having trouble slipping off the rower with the regular workout shorts.
